Tuesday, 1st January 2013…

This class is the first class for 2013. For today we all study about how to identify the main idea for the paragraph. Main idea of a passage is the thought that is present from the beginning to the end. To find the main idea, you need to ask yourself these questions which is “What idea is common to most of the text?” ,next  “ What is the idea that relates the parts to the whole? “ and last but not least “ What opinion do all the parts support?”. In every paragraph, usually have two type of sentence which is a topic sentence that contains the main idea, and one or more detail sentences that support, prove, provide more information, explain, or give examples. There are a few rules for finding the topic sentence. First the topic sentence is usually first but it could be in any position in the paragraph. Next, a topic is usually more “general” than the other sentence. Then, the detail sentences are usually more “specific” than the topic. Lastly, most of the detail sentences support, give examples, prove, talk about, or point toward the topic in some way. A topic sentence can sometimes be found as the first and the last sentences in a paragraph. You must remember that a question will never be a topic sentence. There also have an implied main idea. Implied main idea is the main idea that is unstated in the paragraph. In this case you must figure the main idea. The supporting details will suggest the main idea in each paragraph. There are a few way on how to create an implied main idea. You must ask yourself a few questions which is “What is the entire paragraph about?” and “What is the author’s main point about the topic? What is the author saying about the topic?”. Your answer to those questions should not be too general nor too specific, try to make it broad enough to include all the supporting details in the paragraph, and make sure you state it in a complete sentence. After we have study, our lecturer, Miss Zuraidah gives an exercise. Miss Zuraidah also asks us to count one until four to group us. My group have 4 marks same as group 3 and 4. That’s all from me for today…
